The mouth and body are connected, which means the teeth and gums can be altered if the entire health is altered. Unfortunately, there are many chronic illnesses that can damage the smile and oral health. So, if your child has a chronic illness, it’s important to do all you can to keep their little chompers and oral tissues in tip-top shape. To help you do so, our dentist, Dr. Randal Brown, has some tips for you.

The first tip is to over communicate with our dental team. In order to do so, you need to give us every detail about your child’s health, the treatments they have received, and any medications they are taking. This is important because certain illnesses can increase the chances of suffering extreme and dangerous dental issues. So, if you give us every piece of information, we can do everything we can to prevent issues. It’s also recommended to share your child’s doctor’s contact information with us. That way we can communicate with the other health professional and make sure we don’t miss anything.

The second tip is to remain educated. The easiest way to remain educated is by subscribing to news sources and update centers that are related to your child’s illness. That way if any advances in treatment, warnings, and other pertinent information are released, you’ll be the first to know about it. This can help you help your child in many ways.
