If you play winter sports, your smile can be prone to dental issues and dental emergencies. That is, if you don’t properly care for your teeth and gums while you play. So, our dentist, Dr. Randal Brown, strongly encourages you to care for your smile while you are active. To help you do so, he recommends doing the following things:

-Wear a mouthguard: A mouthguard is a strong appliance that can protect your teeth, gums, and entire mouth from injury. Unfortunately, oral injuries are common in high-contact sports because hard, forceful objects hit the mouth and knock out or break teeth.

-Avoid drinking sports drinks: Sports drinks oftentimes contain high amounts of sugar. And, sugar can cause cavities. So, it’s best to avoid drinking sports drinks so you can avoid cavities. It’s best to drink water instead.

-Get a checkup every six months: Your six-month checkups are vital for a top-notch oral health. Make sure to visit your dentist regularly for a dental cleaning and exam.
